Resin art comes in many shapes and forms. Some pieces are small and simple like jewelry pieces, bookmarks, or pocket hugs. Other resin pieces can be large and intricate such as pyramids or paintings.

With good care these pieces can last a lifetime and longer. Here are some tips and tricks to keep your resin art looking its best.

Heat

Keep your resin piece away from sources of heat. Avoid displaying a painting above a furnace vent or near heaters. Don't leave your resin jewelry in the car on a hot. Heat can make your piece expand and become warped. It could become bendy or even melt if exposed to enough heat.

Heat is most likely to affect newly made resin pieces, but it can happen at any time.

If you are wanting a resin piece specifically to be used around anything hotter than a cup of coffee you will want an upgraded resin that is specifically heat resistant.

Sunlight

With direct sunlight often comes heat. But constant exposure to direct sunlight can also cause your resin piece to breakdown and yellow over time. This is why I specifically avoid making windchimes, suncatchers, and outdoor décor.

Scratches

It takes 30 days for most resin to completely cure. In that time it is most likely to be susceptible to scratch marks, although scratches can occur at any point. Avoid being rough on your new resin piece.

Small scratch marks may be gently buffed out with sandpaper or polishing paper. A polishing compound of your choosing can also be used. I use Flitz on my resin pieces. I have heard other resin artists have had great results using Pledge furniture polish. Use a gentle cloth or a soft sponge.

Breaking

Resin pieces are not indestructible. They can break when dropped or stepped on. Generally, the thicker the piece the harder it is to break.

Treat your resin art like you would anything else you value. When you do your piece will bring you joy for many years.
